The Indianapolis Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Awards
Little Red Door Cancer Agency with Grant to Support Mammography Program
INDIANAPOLIS, IN., November 20, 2009...Little Red Door Cancer Agency is pleased
to be among a select group of non-profit organizations in Indiana chosen to receive grant funding
from the Indianapolis Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The award of $408,300 will allow
the agency the opportunity to continue the Mammography Assistance Program and navigational services
to our clients.
The Mammography Assistance Program assists in providing clients with clinical breast exams,
screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies. Mammograms are also provided
by a mobile unit year round.
Screening for cancer is a crucial tool in detecting cancer when it is in an early, more
treatable stage. Funding from the Komen grant will enable the Mammography Assistance
Program to continue to provide outreach and breast health education services to the community.
Included in these services are free clinical breast exams and mammograms for uninsured and
underinsured women living at or below 225% of the federal poverty level. Follow-up and
navigational services to assist eligible clients in completing diagnostic and treatment
services are available as well.
The Mammography Assistance Program offered through Little Red Door Cancer Agency aligns
with Komen’s mission by offering screenings, education and navigational services. Through
a variety of awareness and fundraising activities, including its signature Komen Race for
the Cure®event, the Komen Indianapolis Affiliate is granting this money in an effort to
reach its mission of eradicating breast cancer as a life-threatening disease by advancing
research, education, screening and treatment. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net
revenue remains in the Indiana service area where it is used to fund community outreach
and education programs for medically under-served women and their families. A minimum of
25 percent of these funds is contributed directly to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award
and Research Grant Program.
Little Red Door serves clients in the metropolitan Indianapolis area as well as seven
surrounding counties including Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Morgan and Shelby.
The agency works closely with more than 40 medical providers throughout the service areas to
provide accessible services to clients.
