Duke Energy Foundation Awards Grant to
Little Red Door Cancer Agency Mammography Assistance Program
INDIANAPOLIS, IN., November 10, 2009…Little Red Door Cancer Agency’s
ability to provide free cancer screenings to central Indiana’s uninsured population
just got a little easier thanks in part to a grant received this fall. The Duke
Energy Foundation awarded the cancer agency with a $20,000 grant to support the
Mammography Assistance Program (MAP).
The Mammography Assistance Program assists in providing clients with clinical
breast exams, screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds and biopsies.
Mammograms are also provided by a mobile unit year round.
Screening for cancer is a crucial tool in detecting cancer when it is in an
early, more treatable stage. Funding from both grants will enable the Mammography
Assistance Program to continue to provide outreach and breast health education
services to the community. Included in these services are free clinical breast
exams and mammograms for uninsured and underinsured women living at or below 225%
of the federal poverty level. Follow-up and navigational services to assist
eligible clients in completing diagnostic and treatment services are available as well.
Little Red Door serves clients in the metropolitan Indianapolis area as well as
seven surrounding counties including Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson,
Morgan and Shelby. The agency works closely with more than 40 medical providers
throughout the service areas to provide accessible services to clients.
